At Sims Orthodontics, we have more than 40 years of experience in providing orthodontic treatment to teens and adolescents in the Pensacola, Florida area. We know that this is a special time in their lives that is full of changes and increased self-awareness. By providing them with orthodontic care before they reach adulthood, we are helping them avoid more difficult and more invasive procedures in the future, because orthodontic issues don’t improve with age – they just become harder to treat.
The most common age for braces is between 11-years-old and 15-years-old. This is usually the perfect time for treatment because children at this age are growing rapidly, and we can take advantage of these growth spurts to help shape the bite and teeth correctly. Most, if not all, of the permanent teeth have erupted and are in place, and crooked teeth, gaps, and bad bites can easily be detected.
The social element to receiving orthodontic treatment at this age can be a very positive one – if your teenager needs braces, they aren’t alone! Many of their friends and classmates will also be receiving orthodontic care. It will be a journey they can experience together, and once it’s done, they will all have smiles they can be proud of and benefits that will last their entire lives.
