Invisalign is a popular way for teens and adults to straighten their teeth. The aligners are clear and comfortable. They are also removable, making it easy for patients to eat, drink, brush, and floss. Here at Sims Orthodontics, we recommend Invisalign to patients who would like to achieve the smiles of their dreams without metal brackets or wires in their mouth.
As long as patients adhere to our proposed treatment plan and keep their aligners in their mouth for at least 22 hours a day, their teeth will gradually move into their proper positions. Sometimes, patients with asthma visit our office and ask us whether their condition will affect their Invisalign treatment.
The truth is that patients with asthma or allergies rarely experience any allergic reactions, breathing challenges, or other complications. Invisalign aligners are comprised of a resin polymer or plastic that is gentle and not known to cause any issues.
We suggest that all Invisalign patients with asthma are extra vigilant with their oral care. Since they are more prone to dry mouth, they’ll want to make sure they remove their aligners to brush their teeth twice a day and floss once a day while visiting their dentist every 6 months or so.
If you are concerned about Invisalign treatment with asthma, we encourage you to speak to your allergy doctor to get their opinion as well. We’ll be happy to collaborate with them to ensure the best possible treatment plan for your situation.
